The French Maritime Academy (ENMM) called ENSM today, trains officers of the Merchant marines, which delivers an Engineering degree with seagoing certificates after five and a half years of study. Merchant Navy officers are primarily leaders and managers.

Responsibilities Officers usually work in either the deck or engineering department. Exact duties will depend on your rank and the size of the vessel. The larger the ship, the more managerial your role is likely to be. After 5 years of study including 24 months of practice navigation, I had got my Diploma (Diplôme de Capitaine de 2e Classe de la Navigation Maritime) at Nantes school (France)

The objective of the training is to provide the future officers with the minimal competences required by the STCW. At this time this Navy Academy delivered Diploma of dual purpose (Deck officer and Chief Engineer).

This is the first Diploma of Merchant navy after 2 years of study. I was ready to go to do practice in any ship or vessel. After 24 months of navigation I have got my Certicate of 2e class merchant navy officer.
